The Joint Commission's Resources for Patient Safety

National Patient Safety Goals, 2023 --  the Joint Commission created the NPSGs in 2002 in order "...to help accredited organizations address specific areas of concern in regard to patient safety."  Annually, experts identify emerging patient safety issues. Use this site to link to each chapter and easy-to-read versions of the NPSGs.

Patient Safety and Quality: An Evidence-Based Handbook for Nurses --  from AHRQ.

QI Guide on Patient Safety (MyQI) --  My Quality Improvement (My QI), made available by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, provides information designed to "... deliver safe, high-quality health care to patients in all clinical settings. You can use the information in this guide to help improve quality of care across settings and at multiple levels."

Quality and Safety Education in Nursing (QSEN Institute) -- According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) website, the AACN has collaborated with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to lead "a national effort designed to enhance the ability of nursing faculty to effectively develop quality and safety competencies among graduates of their programs...." in an effort to "... assure that nursing professionals are provided the knowledge and tools needed to deliver high quality, safe, effective, and patient-centered care." The QSEN project is the ongoing collaborative result and is now in its fourth Phase.

Workplace Safety

Incivility, Bullying, and Workplace Violence --  ... the "ANA recognizes that incivility, bullying, and violence in the workplace are serious issues in nursing."  Explore this page to read the ANA Position Statement. Begin to learn how to identify these problems in the profession, and to educate yourself on best-practices designed to foster a safe and respectful work setting.
