Ready Reference: Welcome

Welcome to the Ready Reference Subject Guide

This guide is designed to help faculty, staff, and students answer common reference questions independently. Sometimes a ready reference search is the first step of a deeper research investigation. Knowing where to find accurate, timely, authoritative information is key and librarians are a go-to source!

What is Ready Reference

Ready Reference is a library term used for resources that provide quick and convenient access to information. Traditionally and frequently used at a library reference desk, these may be print books and include electronic formats. Examples include almanacs, biographical information, books of quotations, dictionaries, encyclopedias, fact-books, handbooks, manuals, statistical compilations, thesauri.

Ask a Question: Use the UCNJ Libraries Chat Reference Service

If you are unable to answer your reference question with the resources provided in this guide, or you have made progress but would appreciate direct assistance from a librarian, please visit us in any of the UCNJ Libraries (Cranford, Elizabeth, Plainfield campuses).

Yu may also receive a librarian's help via the UCNJ Libraries Chat Reference Service located on the library homepage:  libguides.ucc.edu

During regular open hours, a librarian will respond to you in a live chat session.

If the Chat Service is offline, leave your question! A librarian will reply as soon as we are back online!  VERY IMPORTANT--  provide your UCNJ email address or we'll have no way to get back in touch with you.
