Overview of the TEAS Test

TEAS--  Test of Essential Academic Skills is an exam that tests a student's preparedness to enter a health science field. The test is part of basic admissions requirements for nursing or allied health school. To know all requirements for admission, check with the schools you are applying to as each nursing or allied health program will have its own.

The ATI TEAS 7 is the latest version of the exam. It consists of 170 questions over 209 minutes in four content areas: Reading, Mathematics, Science, English and Language Usage. Question types include multiple choice, multiple select (select all that apply), fill in the blank, ordered response, and hot spots.

Twenty of the questions are unscored: 6 in Reading, 4 in Mathematics, 6 in Science, 4 in English and Language Usage.

Each subject category has a separate time limit:

  • Reading – 55 minutes, 45 questions
  • Mathematics – 57 minutes, 38 questions
  • Science – 60 minutes, 50 questions
  • English and Language Usage – 37 minutes, 37 questions
