Psychology: Citations

Guide to Union College Psychology resources.

Citing your Sources

Why do I cite?

Citing sources maintain academic standards and establish your credibility as it proves that you have done your research by looking at existing information and is contributing to the scholarly discourse with well-supported arguments. It gives credit to the original authors and help readers to better understand the ideas you included in your paper.

Citing your sources consistently and accurately helps you avoid committing plagiarism in your writing. Cite according to the citation style recommended by your instructor or the style that is common to your field of study or subject.  APA is the citation style for Psychology and the APA Manual (7th edition) provides guidelines for citing sources and in-text citations.
