Trade publications are periodicals that target a specific industry or trade - such as advertising, banking, or fishing. They serve as a blend of scholarly and popular sources and report on industry-specific news like trends, marketing, and pricing in certain fields. The target audience for trade magazines/journals are people currently studying or working in specific industries.
A trade periodical can be used for an academic assignment when writing about recent developments in a given field, career or job opportunities, and conference reporting or announcements. Experiments may be reported on and mentioned but will not be described in detail so as to keep the content accessible to professionals and students of all levels; there may be a small bibliography at the end of articles. Trade publications are not peer-reviewed. A professional working in the field would read a trade periodical for the above mentioned reasons as well as to keep up on current trends in marketing, product advertisements, and editorials.
