Introduction to Citations

Citing your Sources

Citing sources maintain academic standards and establish your credibility as it proves that you have done your research by looking at existing information and you are contributing to the scholarly discourse with well-supported arguments.

Cite according to the citation style recommended by your instructor or the style that is common to your field of study or subject.

Citations give credit to the original authors and help readers to better understand the ideas you included in your paper.

Citing your sources consistently and accurately helps you avoid committing plagiarism in your writing.
