APA Style for Newspaprer Citations

The APA (American Psychological Association) provides the following examples for newspaper citations and in-text citations.

The citations order:

  • Author last name
  • Author initials
  • Date of article (in parenthesis)
  • Title of article 
  • Title of newspaper
  • Link of online source 

Also noted is "If the article is from a news website (e.g., CNN, HuffPost)—one that does not have an associated daily or weekly newspaper—use the format for a webpage on a news website instead."

MLA Style for Newspaper Citations

The MLA (Modern Language Association) format for citing newspaper articles is shown below.

Author's Last Name, First Name. "Title of Article: Subtitle if Any." Name of Newspaper, Date of Publication, p. Page number. Note: If the author's name is not listed, begin the citation with the title of the article.
