Ticks and Tick-Borne Diseases: The Tick App: Your-On-the-Go-Tick Expert

The Tick App: a study researchers from USA higher education

The Tick App is a joint effort between partners at the Northeast and Midwest CDC Regional Centers for Excellence in Vector-Borne diseases and are funded for this study by the Centers for Disease Control.

The researchers are from higher education-- from Columbia University, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Michigan State University, and the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

They have undertaken this study to determine where and how often people are exposed to ticks. By using a smartphone application and citizen science approach, the researchers are examining human behavior/daily activities, tick exposure and the risk of tick-borne diseases. This information can help to develop disease control programs that allow people to enjoy their outdoor activities safely while reducing disease risk.
