Web Sources

When choosing a website to use in your research it's important to find a credible source. Remember that the internet is open to everyone and not every website is reliable. Just because a website appears at the top of a Google search doesn't make it reliable.

Here are few things to consider when choosing a web source for your research:

  • Look for contact information. A credible source should have a contact
  • Look for date in was created and when it was last updated. You want current information.
  • Figure out the site's purpose. Are they trying to sell you something?
  • Look at the URL. Sites ending in .gov, .edu and .us.(state) are more reliable than a .com site. When using .org sites consider the organizations mission and point of view.
